Tonight musical parody genius "Weird" Al Yankovic will be performing on Late Night. "Weird" Al has been making music for 30 years. 30 YEARS!! "Weird" Al started out playing coffee houses and sent a tape into the comedy radio show "Dr. Demento". The tape impressed Dr. Demento and he played it on the air. Soon after that, while in school studying architecture, "Weird" Al recorded a parody of The Knack's "My Sharona" entitled "My Bologna". This caught attention of The Knack who liked the song which led to a recording contract, and eventually the "Weird" Al you know today. Here are more facts about "Weird" Al Yankovic. 1. Weird Al is known for his elaborate concerts. He dresses up and performs characters from his songs.
2. "Weird" Al was nominated for and won a Grammy award for Best Comedy Record for Eat It. Since then he has been nominated ten times and won a total of three times.
3. He co-wrote and starred in the movie UHF (that you should totally watch if you haven't seen it) and it boasted the highest test scores at Orion film studios at the time. But the film did poorly in the studios, partially due to opening against tons of great movies that Summer - Ghostbusters II, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Batman.
5. There is a fan driven campaign to induct "Weird" Al into the Rock n' Roll Hall Of Fame.
