Gene Simmons is the frontman for KISS and the star of the TV show Gene Simmons Family Jewels that chronicles Gene's life with his family. He's known for such hits as "Rock n' Roll All Nite", "Detroit Rock City", "Love Gun", "Lick It Up", "I Was Made For Lovin' You", "Let's Put The X In Sex", and "God Gave Rock 'N Roll To You II" among many others. lucy.jpg Actress Lucy Liu who became known for her role on the TV series Ally McBeal as Ling Woo, and in her film roles, including Charlie's Angels and Kill Bill is a guest on Late Night tonight.

Two Things You Did Not Know About Lucy Liu (unless you read her Wikipedia page)

1. Lucy was born and was raised in Jackson Heights, Queens, New York, by Taiwanese immigrant parents. Her family spoke Mandarin at home and she did not learn English until she was five years old.

2. She also speaks "a little bit of Spanish, a tiny bit of Italian, a little bit of Japanese," that she learned for her role in Kill Bill. She also rock climbs, practices martial arts, skis, and plays the accordion.

Today, Two Brave Men Are Setting the World Record for "Longest Time For Two People To Touch Noses"

Several people will attempt to set world records with the Universal Record Database on tonight's show, and this one is probably one of my favorites ever. At 8:12 a.m. this morning, two people, John and Rob from Serious Lunch, began an attempt to set the world record for Longest Time for Two People to Touch Noses. What does that mean? It means that two grown men strapped their heads together with a 90's-era belt and are touching noses face to face. It means their mouths are mere centimeters apart, and they are going to try and stay touching until tonight's show. That means going to the bathroom together. That means breathing on each other - CONSTANTLY. They rode the subway here this morning touching noses - and are currently sitting in one of our dressing rooms. This is INSANE and hilarious. We are live-streaming the attempt all day today - you don't want to miss one second of this.

Video streaming by Ustream

Good luck boys! We'll bring you more updates throughout the day.

Tonight's Guest: Dr. Drew

Posted by Cory Cavin March 16, 2010 5:15 PM
Categories

drdrew.jpgTonight Dr. Drew Pinsky, celebrity doctor, radio, and TV host is a guest on Late Night. Dr. Drew is a longtime host of the radio call-in show Loveline and is currently hosting Sober House on VH1. Sober House is a spin off and continuation series of Celebrity Rehab where the celebrities transition from rehab to living a sober life in a drug free house. Dr. Drew spends a good amount of time with the show and his other shows but he's also found time to get into the inventing game releasing the new Rx Locker - a "locker" for prescription pills to keep them locked up and away from people who don't need to be taking them. The website for Rx Locker says that "70% of teens that have abused prescription drugs took them from friends or family" so the Rx Locker is a great way to keep prescriptiongs safe only for the ones to whom they're prescribed. This sounds like a great idea.

We don't have any pills lying around Late Night (hellooooo, Dr. Drew's gonna be here today, we wouldn't just leave pills lying around), but we thought of a fun game we could play where we put things in the Rx Locker that sound sound like the word "locker". Like you could have an Rx Locker with this DVD of The Hurt Locker, a newspaper with the headline "Subway Shocker", and a picture of Atlanta Braves pitcher John Rocker:

lockerrocker.jpg

Why stop there? Why not have all these things in there and a pair of Dockers, the novel Clockers, YouTube clips of Chris Crocker, a DVD of Meet The Fockers, the URL for Gawker, a full season on VHS of Walker (Texas Ranger),a celebrity stalker, CD's from Ted Leo who's an indie rocker, the sport of soccer, a late shift grocery store inventory stocker, an insensitive mocker, a set of nice knockers, some beta blockers, and the Seinfeld episode "Close Talker". Anything else?

Tonight's Guest: The Bee Gees

Posted by Jon Friedman March 16, 2010 4:30 PM
Categories

Whoa! Really?! Yes! Robin Gibb and Barry Gibb will be guests on Late Night tonight. The Bee Gees are a super awesome harmonic "soft rock" group known as the foremost stars of the disco music era in the late 1970s. The group sang three-part tight harmonies that were instantly recognizable. The three brothers co-wrote most of their own hits, as well as writing and producing several major hits for other artists.

But of course we're especially excited for this visit from Robin and Barry, becasue , well, the video below says it all!

Tonight's Guest: Kristen Stewart

Posted by Sara Schaefer March 16, 2010 1:00 PM

Kristen Stewart is back tonight! She's here to talk about the new rock biopic, The Runaways, in which she plays Joan Jett. Hells yes. We hope she'll also give us the scoop on Eclipse, the next installment in the Twilight franchise - because we're almost as excited about it as this girl is. In the meantime, remember how awesome she was last time she came by Late Night? Yep, the girl can throw a football:

Between this and playing Joan Jett, I'd say Kristen is really rounding out her Badass resume.

Tonight's Guest: Toni Collette

collette.jpgTonight the fabulous Toni Collette will be on the show.  But which Toni will it be?  Which one?? Are you catching my thinly veiled, horrible joke about United States of Tara, her series on Showtime for which she won an Emmy and a Golden Globe for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series?  Are you?  Well, you should've.  If you've never seen United States of Tara, Collette plays a housewife suffering from dissaciative identity disorder, and whenver she is stressed out, she takes on one of five personalities.  So she is essentially playing six characters in one show.  Very impressive.  Besides USoT you may have seen Collette in such films as Little Miss Sunshine, The Sixth Sense, About A Boy, and many others.  Tune in tonight!

In case you don't have cable and/or live under a rock, she's got her own successful late night talk show, Chelsea Lately on E!. On the show, she asks her celebrity guests the tough (and hilarious) questions and pierces all things pop culture with her quick wit. Currently, she's the only lady late night talk show host - and for that, we really admire her. Tonight on the show, Jimmy and Chelsea will be playing a fun game (hint: it involves alcohol - and no, it's not Beer Pong). I can tell you this: we're going to have a blast - or should I say bang?

Tonight's Guest: Chris Parnell

Tonight longtime Saturday Night Live cast member Chris Parnell will be on the show talking to Jimmy. Parnell was a cast member on SNL throughout the 90s and early 2000s and has since gone on to roles in television and films. He currently stars in the very funny animated show Archer on FX. And he appears in a recurring role on 30 Rock as the hilariously inept Dr. Spaceman (pronounced "Dr. Spuh-Che-Men"). Oh lord, it's so funny. Watch:

Categories

lucas.jpgMatt Lucas, a British writer, comedian, and actor, stops by the show tonight! He got his big break playing multiple hilarious characters on Little Britain, and has gone on to play Tweedledee and Tweedledum in Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland. Before his rise to stardom, Matt grew up in Stanmore, Greater London, with parents who ran a chauffeuring business. I hope he'll talk about what promises to be a visually stunning Alice in Wonderland - I heard that to shoot his two characters, he had to wear one of those full-body green lycra suit. Finally, let's all wish him a very happy birthday!! (It's today.)

Tonight's Guest: Mike Myers

Posted by Jon Friedman March 5, 2010 12:30 PM

myers.jpg

Helping us celebrate one year on the air tonight is one of our favorites at Late Night, the one and only Mike Myers! Well, I guess not one and only because of the character from the Halloween movie franchise, but seriously, there really is only one and he's with us tonight, it's Mike Myers!!

Tonight's Guest: Mia Wasikowska

Posted by Sara Schaefer March 4, 2010 4:15 PM
Categories

mia.jpgMia Wasikowska is an Australian actress and she is on our show tonight. This is a good thing. Why? Because after making her break in the HBO series In Treatment, she embarked on a film career - with roles in Amelia, Defiance, and the indie film That Evening Sun. Now, she has officially arrived: she will star as Alice in Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland. YES! When she was young, she trained as a ballet dancer for six years, including two years training 35 hours a week. Though I'm sure she would have made an excellent dancer, we're glad she turned to acting. Tonight, she'll talk with Jimmy about what it's like to work with Johnny Depp and Tim Burton, her appearance on the cover of Vanity Fair, and more.

Tonight's Guest: Zach Galifianakis

Batten down the hatches everyone because Zach Galifianakis is in the building! (Or, he will be within a few hours of me writing this.) You may know Zach Galifianakis from the world of comedy because he is a hilarious, hilarious, hilarious man. You know this. He's hosting SNL this weekend and it looks great. Watch these promos!

I hope he gets that Amy Adams out of his throat before the show.

She's Australian, had her initial big break playing Tess Harding in the WB hit, Roswell, and has made Maxim's Hot 100 three times. In other words, this lady is on fire! (Not literally, you fool. We take fire safety very seriously here.) Hopefully she'll give us the dish on Rpattz and maybe even some spoilers for this season of Lost!

judah3.jpgTonight Judah "World Champion" Friedlander returns to LNWJF! Judah Friedlander is a cast member of 30 Rock, comedic actor from movies like Zoolander, Meet The Parents, and The Wrestler (which isn't as much of a comedy as it is a sad portrayal of the harsh reality of professional wrestling, blue collar poverty, and strained relationships done in a beautiful way). Judah is also a wearer of trucker hats with funny titles on them and he wears new ones on every episode of 30 Rock. Some of my favorites are "Extra Sausage", "Karate Sluts", "ESP Tutor", and "Smells". (See a full list of 30 Rock Season 1 hats here.)  Also, you can follow Judah's Twitter!

lithgow.jpgTonight John Lithgow makes his way to Late Night. Talk about a wide spanning career, this guy has been all over the place! He is an accomplished stage, TV, and film actor with roles in Raising Cain, Cliffhanger, Terms of Endearment, Third Rock From The Sun, and many others including a recent Golden Globe winning role on Dexter. He's also an accomplished children's book writer and recording artist. He's a master at playing a villain (say a serial killer in Dexter, evil maniacal genius in Cliffhanger, or a tortured split personality in Raising Cain) and a quirky funny lead (in Third Rock From The Sun). Lithgow is currently in "Mr. & Mrs. Fitch" on Broadway here in NYC. But one of his most memorable scenes is when he brings together the funny and the heart in Harry And The Hendersons. Heart. Wrenching. You must watch it now. Tune in tonight!

Tonight's Guest: Dick Cavett

Posted by Sara Schaefer February 10, 2010 4:00 PM
Categories

cavett.jpgWow, you guys. Legendary talk show host Dick Cavett is on the show tonight! He has hosted daytime, morning, and - most notably - late night talk shows. The Dick Cavett Show was beloved and ran from 1969 through 1975 opposite Carson. Some memorable moments from the show include "The Woodstock Show," when a group of musicians came directly from Woodstock to talk about their experiences there; Salvador Dali's appearance (he showed up Jeff Musial style with an anteater on a leash); Jimi Hendrix's interview; and when Marlon Brando appeared on the show with representatives of the Cheyenne, Paiute, and Lummi tribes (after the taping, Brando got into a fight with a photographer and ended up in the hospital with a bite wound). Those are just some of the historical - and crazy - things that happened while Dick was on the air. You can see episodes and highlights on The Dick Cavett Show DVD's, including "Hollywood Greats," "Comic Legends," "Rock Icons," "John & Yoko Collection," and "Ray Charles Collection." I also recommend checking our his autobiography, Cavett. Educate yourself! I'm sure he'll have some wisdom to share with Jimmy and all of us tonight!

Tonight's Guest: Christian Siriano

siriano.jpgFashion alert! Check your pants and tuck in your shirts (or untuck them! I don't know what's cool now!), because Christian Siriano is bringing the fierce to Late Night tonight! Siriano is the youngest winner ever in the history of Project Runway, winning the show when he was only twenty three years old. He was known for his talent and attitude on Runway, and he popularized the terms "fierce", "hot tranny mess" and "farouche".  Siriano has worked on collections for Saks Fifth Avenue and Bluefly, and recently collaborated on a maternity line titled "Fierce Mamas".  Tonight he will bring fierceness to your TV screen.  Rawr.

Tonight's Guest: James Van Der Beek

vanderbeek.jpgDAWSON!!!! I mean. James Van Der Beek!!! Is on the show tonight. Look, we all remember James from his breakout role in the WB classic Dawson's Creek. But he's so much more than Dawson! Hello? Varsity Blues. (I DON'T WANT. YOUR LIFE!) Van Der Beek is legend, and we are thrilled to have him here tonight. He's currently starring as a misanthropic doctor, Dr. Joe Briggs, on the show Mercy. Hopefully he'll chat with us about that, and also how far he's come since his days on the creek. His creek.

Tonight's Guest: Jeff Musial

Posted by Jon Friedman February 9, 2010 12:30 PM

Our friend and animal expert Jeff Musial returns to Late Night tonight! It's always a great time when he visits us because of the unique exotic animals he brings and the "expect the unexpected-ness" of his segment. If you'll remember, one of the best moments of LNWJF so far was when one of Jeff's Brazilian cockroaches escaped during the show (without anyone realizing) and it was still there, lurking the next day!

Tonight's Guest: Bill Paxton

paxton.jpgOk everyone, lock up your wives, because Bill "Big Love" Paxton is coming to the show tonight and you don't know what this guy is gonna do! (He might marry your wife. That's just a character he plays! I'm kidding!) Bill Paxton is currently starring in HBO's Big Love as Bill Henrickson, a modern day polygamist and husband to three wives. He has also been seen in such huge blockbusters as Twister, Apollo 13, and Titanic among many others. You have probably seen all these films more than once, but let me tell you what you probably not seen. Bill Paxton was once in a new wave band called "Martini Ranch" and they released a video for their song "Reach". Here are things that make this AWESOME. It features some Three Amigos characters being dragged behind a horse while playing instruments. Not enough? It has cameos from Judge Reinhold and Paul Reiser. Need more? It was directed by JAMES CAMERON and it's the only music video he's ever shot. How have you not seen this, right? It is an 80's new wave gem, so put your work aside and watch it NOW.

Tonight's Guest: Willie Garson

Posted by Sara Schaefer February 8, 2010 4:15 PM

garson.jpgActor Willie Garson is on the show tonight! You might remember him most as Stanford on Sex & The City, but if you're any sort of pop culture aficionado (like I know you are), he's played numerous roles in movies and television, including ones in Mr. Belvedere, Quantum Leap, Groundhog Day, Just Like Heaven, Being John Malkovich, Labor Pains, and Jimmy's own Fever Pitch! Most recently, he's taken on the role of Mozzie in White Collar on USA. Hopefully he'll have stories to dish about former LNwJF guest and White Collar co-star, Matthew Bomer! No matter what they talk about, Willie is a delight, so don't miss it.

3 Things You Did Not Know About Blake Lively (unless you read her Wikipedia page)

1.
During Lively's' childhood, she attended 13 different schools. When she was three years old, her mother enrolled her in the first grade because Lively's older brother was supposed to start school, but he didn't want to go alone. Her mother told the school Lively was six since she "was so tall". After a few weeks, her teachers "said they would have to put me in mentally disabled classes because I wasn't up to pace with the rest of the kids," and they thought that she "was slow because all I wanted to do was sleep while the other kids were doing their projects." Shortly afterwards Lively's mother took her out of the school. As a child, Lively was homeschooled.

2. Lively was not at all interested in acting but during the summer between her junior and senior years, her brother, Eric, made his agent send her out on a few auditions over the period of a few months; of the few auditions, she got the role of Bridget for The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. Lively filmed her scenes in The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants between her junior and senior years at Burbank High.

3. Lively was cast in the CW's series Gossip Girl which premiered in September 2007. She plays Serena van der Woodsen in the teen drama.[12] While rumors of infighting among the Gossip Girl co-stars have circulated in the tabloids, Lively denies that there is any unfriendly competition on-set. "The media is always trying to pit us against each other," she said in an interview, "I guess because it's just not interesting to say, 'Everyone gets along; everybody just works 18-hour days and goes home to sleep.' That's not fun to read, I guess."

After establishing herself as a successful stand up and actress she joined The View in 1997. Fred Armisen has often impersonated Joy on SNL and recently on her show she confronted Fred about it (it was much less dramatic than that):

Teter is the only professional snowboarder to have a Ben & Jerry's flavor named after her - Maple Blondie. She also has her own company, Hannah's Gold, which sells maple Vermont maple syrup and partner's with World Vision for charity work in Africa. All good things.

Another amazing thing - Hannah is partnering with Samsung to send 10 lucky winners to the 2010 Olympics to be 'mobile explorers' for them. They need people (read: YOU) to be Samsung's Official Bloggers. You can go to Samsung's website and sign up with a friend (or family member - take your mom!) to be a blogging team and if you're picked, you go to the Olympics! You should go sign up! topolsky.jpgTonight Engadget editor-in-chief Josh Topolsky will be talking to Jimmy about the happenings and the goings on in the tech world. Big news dropped this week - Google announced that they will be making and selling their own phone, the Nexus One, and Engadget had exclusive pictures and what we call in the biz as "the scoop". The Nexus One will be sold by Google starting in January. This is big news, since no other smart phone front runners (the Palm Pre, the iPhone, etc.) are sold directly through the hardware company but instead are sold through their mobile carrier. In plain English that means, you'll be able to buy the phone off Google.com and put it on a carrier of your choice. That's the future people! Being the editor-in-chief of a huge gadget blog like Engadget has its privileges and one of those privileges is Josh being able to bring some mad technology to Late Night tonight. Tune in! Let's nerd out together!

He is a WWE professional wrestler, was born on Long Island, and raised in Canada. Athletics run in his family, as his father, Ted Irvine, played for the New York Rangers. Jericho is credited as the first ever undisputed champion of the WWE. Aside from wrestling, Jericho is also the lead singer of Fozzie. You can keep up with him at his Twitter and read his book A Lions Tale: Around the World in Spandex.

You can see him this Saturday at 9pm on NBC in the WWE Tribute to the Troops and every Friday at 8pm for Friday Night Smackdown. But you should really tune in tonight because Late Night will never...ever...EVER be the same again!

paulshaffer.jpgWait, what? Paul Shaffer on our show tonight? Did he get lost? Isn't he supposed to be at the Late Show with David Letterman? Wrong studio, buddy! Just kiddddding - Paul's visiting us tonight to swap Late Night stories with Jimmy and The Roots! He'll also talk about his book, We'll be Here for the Rest of Our Lives: A Swingin' Show-biz Saga. With Paul's long and legendary career as a late night band leader, and de facto sidekick, I'm sure this book has many great stories. He started out as a band member on Saturday Night Live when it first premiered (while also making regular appearances in sketches), and then in 1982, he took the role of band leader for Late Night with David Letterman. And the rest is Shaffer history! I've heard there may be some type of interaction between Paul and The Roots tonight - maybe some kind of battle of the Late Night bands? That would rule!

One of the "Morgans" that I'm talking about is Sarah Jessica Parker who is on the show tonight talking with Jimmy. Sarah Jessica Parker needs no introduction. jasonreitman.jpgTonight, director Jason Reitman is on the show to talk about his new film, Up in the Air. I saw it this weekend - and I can tell you, it's awesome. Can't wait to hear about it from the director himself. The film takes place largely in airports, airplanes, and hotels, so I'm curious if they actually flew around the country to all these different airports to shoot the film. Oh, and it stars a little-known actor by the name of George Clooney. Or should I say, George Swoon-ey? AM I RIGHT, ladies? Ahem. Sorry, got off track there for a second. Aaaanyway, you probably remember Jason from his previous films, Juno and Thank You For Smoking.  His father is the famous producer/director, Ivan Reitman, who directed Stripes, Ghostbusters, Meatballs, Ghostbusters II, Dave, and Legal Eagles. So yeah, I think it's safe to say that directing awesome movies is in his blood. No pressure, every future Reitman child!  Seriously though, Jason's going to be a fun guest on the show tonight - don't miss it.

Tonight's Guest: Marion Cotillard

cotillard.jpgTonight actress Marion Cotillard will be talking with Jimmy about her upcoming movie Nine. Cotillard is a French actress with a background in singing and acting, and since Nine is a musical movie, that works out well. Cotillard had been seen in films like Gerard Pires' Taxi (not to be confused with Jimmy's film Taxi with Queen Latifah) and later Tim Burton's Big Fish. She was widely recognized for portrayal of Edith Piaf in La Vie en rose and won multiple awards for performance including a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy. She also recently starred alongside Johnny Depp in Public Enemies.

A random fact about Cotillard - one of her first on screen appearances was in Highlander: The Series. If you haven't watched the trailer for Nine you really should go watch it now. It looks spectacular.

Previously, she played amazing roles in Boogie Nights, Magnolia, The Hours, The End of the Affair, and Far from Heaven. (Personally, I loved her most in Nine Months opposite Hugh Grant.) Fun fact: Julianne played two half-sisters, Frannie and Sabrina, on the soap As The World Turns from 1985-1988. Look how far she's come! (Our show - the pinnacle of every actor's career. Duh.)

dag.jpgDavid Alan Grier, the actor and comedian known for his work on the sketch comedy television show In Living Color and the Comedy Central satirical news and sketch comedy program Chocolate News is a guest on LNWJF tonight.

3 Things You Did Not Know About David Alan Grier (unless you read his Wikipedia page)

1.
Grier received a BA from the University of Michigan, and an MFA from the Yale School of Drama. Immediately after graduating, he landed the role of Jackie Robinson in the short-lived Broadway musical The First, directed by Martin Charnin and written by Joel Siegel.

2. Although primarily known for his dramatic work, Grier began to shift towards comedy, making memorable appearances in the cult films Amazon Women on the Moon and I'm Gonna Git You Sucka. Keenen Ivory Wayans, the director of Sucka, cast Grier in his new variety show In Living Color. It became a ratings hit and won an Emmy for Outstanding Variety Series. Grier became a popular cast member through his characters, which ranged from hyperactive children to crotchety old men. Among his prominent characters were obnoxious, megaphone-blaring shop teacher Al MacAfee; the elderly Mr. Brooks, whose autumn years are a never-ending verbal battle with his wife; Calhoun Tubbs, a blues musician with very limited creativity; a member of Funky Finger Productions, a production company with more ambition than resources; and, most famously, flamboyant and proud homosexual Antoine Merriweather in the recurring sketch 'Men On Film'.

3. He was often referred to as the third host of the radio show Loveline, as he was a frequent guest and guest host (usually filling in for Adam Carolla). One of his most famous contributions was a bit where he began calling out various pharmaceutical drugs Dr. Drew was recommending to a caller as though they were the names of black children being yelled at by their parents. The episode aired on 09/07/2005 towards the end of the show.

3. In 2002, Bateman was cast as Michael Bluth in the comedy series Arrested Development. Although critically acclaimed, the series never achieved high ratings. It ended in a two-hour series finale (four episodes in a row) on February 10, 2006, broadcast opposite the opening ceremony of the 2006 Winter Olympics. Don't get mad! It's my job to tell you. Anyway, are you still reeling from the series finale of Mad Men? So are we, and that's why we've got THE Betty Draper here. We just aren't ready to say goodbye yet. Do you think she'll be able to tell us anything about Season 4 (which now seems tortuously far away)? Okay, I think that might be wishful thinking. Instead, I hope she'll talk to us about what it was like to grow up in a tiny town in South Dakota, her days modeling for Abercrombie & Fitch, her love of sharks, what Jon Hamm smells like, and what her favorite Mad Men parody is. Also - in case you didn't know, this weekend, she's hosting SNL. Awesome.

93224465.jpgAcademy-Award winning actor and legendary comedian Robin Williams is ON THE SHOW TONIGHT! How's that for an "awesome" alert everyone?! This is going to be crazy. I'm personally going to try and count how many different impressions Robin and Jimmy do during the course of the interview. I would turn it into a drinking game, but it might give me alcohol poisoning if I do that. Robin will be talking (at least for half a second) about his new film, Old Dogs, and his co-stars John Travolta and Seth Green. BIG BIG SHOW TONIGHT. You will definitely want to watch, because let's face it - it's the week after Thanksgiving and you're still gorging on leftovers and you need an excuse to stay up and eat that almost-week-old turkey and cranberry sauce sandwich. Please be careful.

Obviously the biggest news of today is that New Moon drops tonight at 12:01am. OMG!!! Seriously, I think every theater in NYC is sold out and there is gonna be a riot in the streets tonight while people are waiting for the Twilight saga to continue. And tonight Taylor Lautner will be a guest on Late Night.

Here's a few facts about Taylor to prep you for tonight:

  • He's an accomplished martial artist, studying karate from age 6 to 13. At age 12 he won the Junior World Championships.
  • At age 13 he won the role of Shark Boy in the Robert Rodriguez film, The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl in 3-D.
  • The director of New Moon considered replacing Lautner with a different actor. To keep the role, Lautner weight-trained extensively and gained approximately 30 pounds.
  • His nick name is "Dr. Abs".

Ok, I may have made up one of those facts. Tune in tonight!

jamiekennedy.jpgDon't scream everybody, but Jamie Kennedy is on the show tonight! I wonder if he'll kick it old skool with Jimmy. Good thing the studio is air-conditioned, otherwise it would totally feel like a boiler room. I hope Jamie Kennedy will experiment with his talk-show style tonight. If there are any really big fans in the audience, I think they might scream two times. Or maybe even scream three times! I heard that after the show we're all going to go to White Castle. I'm pretty sure everyone in America is going to want to see the show - but I have inside information that in particular, it's Malibu's most wanted. Ooooooookay, I'll stop!!! Seriously though, very subtle references to his career aside, Jamie will be here tonight talking about his role on The Ghost Whisperer, and to just generally make us laugh! Don't miss it.

OMGGGGGGGGGzzzzz everyone. Tonight wunder-chef David Chang of Momofuku restaurant fame will be teaching Jimmy how to make some delicious food. If you've never eaten at any of the Momofuku restaurants do yourself a favor and go there when you're in NYC. You don't eat out much? That's ok, just get the new Momofuku book. Listen people. Listen to me with your "stomach ears". You need this book. And it makes a great holiday gift for your avid chef brother/sister/monster-in-law. And then they can make you delicious pork buns and Crack Pie, just what the holidays are about! So get the book because it's about to blow up. Speaking of blowing up, look closely at this picture:

91980414.jpgTonight, G4 queen and Attack of the Show! co-host Olivia Munn will be stopping by Studio 6B! We're going to have some serious fun with her tonight - and a very special guest will be stopping by to join in! If you're not familiar with Olivia's work, here's a quick nerd guide:

  • Olivia got her acting start in a straight-to-video horror flick called Scarecrow Gone Wild.

  • In 2005, landed the role of Mily Acuna, a teen surfer, on the show Beyond the Break on The N network.

  • In 2006, Olivia took over hosting duties with co-host Kevin Pereira on G4's Attack of The Show! (AOTS), a show that brings you the latest in digital media, technology, and video games.

  • AOTS was not her first experience in live television: she once interned for Fox Sports Net and did some sideline reporting for college football and women's basketball.

  • One time on AOTS, Olivia dislocated her shoulder on a baby oil slip n' slide. See the incident (and her funny recap) here.

5 Things You Did Not Know About Artie Lange (unless you read his Wikipedia page)

1. Early in life Lange was arrested for attempted bank robbery. He claimed he was flirting with the bank teller and passed her a joke note with a request for $50,000 with his name signed at the bottom. When he found out police were searching for him he turned himself in. As part of his probation, Lange attended the Connecticut School of Broadcasting from March to June 1987. This led to him pursuing a comedy career, after he was heavily influenced by Richard Lewis.

2. In 1995, he landed a role as one of the original cast members of FOX's sketch comedy show MADtv. Lange had previous sketch comedy experience with the improv troupe "Live on Tape". Lange later attributed his hiring to the fact that he fit the John Belushi mold that was popular in sketch comedy.

3. Comedian Norm Macdonald, impressed by Lange's work on Mad TV, offered him a part in the 1998 movie Dirty Work. Although Lange frequently jokes about the film's poor reception he credits Macdonald and director Bob Saget with rejuvenating his comedy career, leading to several more film appearances and a lucrative TV development deal.

4. Lange was a cast member on the shortlived The Norm Show, starring Norm Macdonald. After its cancellation, Lange would be selected from numerous guest comedians auditioning to replace Jackie Martling on The Howard Stern Show, beginning full time on October 29, 2001.

5. On November 11, 2008, Artie's first book, Too Fat To Fish, was released. The book is a collection of narrative episodes from throughout Lange's life, from his childhood to his recent USO trip to Afghanistan in July 2008. The foreword is written by Howard Stern.

91589333.jpgThe lovely Anna Torv will be joining us tonight! Australian-born Anna plays FBI agent Olivia Dunham on Fringe, but you might also know her as the main character Nariko in the video game Heavenly Sword for Playstation 3. In other words: she's a TOTAL BADASS!

When Anna's not entangled in a J.J. Abrams plot-web, Anna loves the outdoors. To destress her life, she reads books and employs what Australians call the "ten-yard stare" while going on long walks. It's when you set your focus onto the horizon. Sounds intense. I'll have to try it sometime while I'm at work. Though for me it would probably be more like a one-yard stare. My office is pretty small. When Cory asks why I'm staring at the side of his head, I'll say, "WHAT? Anna Torv told me I could do it!!!"

Season 2 of Steven's Vh1 show Tough Love begins this weekend, and he's got a new book out with his mom, JoAnn Ward, called Crash Course in Love. Since Steven's got so much advice to give, here are some of the questions I'm hoping he'll answer on tonight's show:

  • What should I wear on a first date? The LED dress or thong jeans?

  • How do I ask a guy out on a date? Write it on his Facebook wall, or on his bathroom wall while he's in the shower?

  • What's the best way to get a man's attention at the laundromat? Folding my underwear really obviously, or folding HIS underwear really obviously?

Here's hoping for a very informative interview! Tough Love 2 premieres on Sunday. In the meantime, you can keep track of Steve's every move on his Twitter feed.

Mostly because I'm sort of afraid that the whole 2012 theory could be correct. Knock on wood, am I right? Let's hope not. When Kate is not playing Dr. Addison "McLadySteamy"* Montgomery, she blogs AND vlogs at her website, she twitters, she helps save sea turtles, and she stars in the occasional feature film! In fact, she just finished shooting Legion alongside Dennis Quaid and Paul Bettany, which, judging by the trailer, looks awesome and probably more than a little terrifying (Creepy grandma demon!! Scary clowny-long-legs!). It comes out in 2010 (which is soon!). In the meantime, you can find her on Private Practice on ABC Thursdays at 10!

3 Things You Did Not Know About Laurence Fishburne (unless you read his Wikipedia page)

1.
Fishburne started acting at age twelve getting his first job in 1973 portraying Joshua Hall on the ABC soap opera, One Life to Live. He was initially cast in the hit television series Good Times, but the role was eventually given to Ralph Carter. Fishburne's most memorable childhood role was in Cornbread, Earl and Me in which he played a young boy who witnessed the police shooting of a popular high school basketball star. Fishburne later earned a supporting role in Francis Ford Coppola's Apocalypse Now, in which he played a 17-year-old sailor nicknamed 'Mr. Clean'. When production began in March 1976 he was just fourteen, apparently lying about his age to get the part. Filming took so long that he was already seventeen upon its completion.

2. Fishburne spent much of the 1980s in and out of television and periodically on stage. In the early 80s Fishburne had a very minor role in the critically acclaimed Steven Spielberg film The Color Purple. Fishburne had a recurring role as Cowboy Curtis with Paul Reubens' character, Pee Wee Herman in the CBS children's television show, Pee-wee's Playhouse.

3. In 1993, he received his first Oscar nomination for his portrayal of Ike Turner in What's Love Got to Do With It. In 1997 Fishburne starred in the science fiction horror Event Horizon alongside Sam Neill. Today, Fishburne is perhaps best known for his role as Morpheus, the hacker-mentor of Neo, played by Keanu Reeves, in the 1999 blockbuster science fiction film, The Matrix.

3 Things You Did Not Know About Ian Somerhalder (unless you read his Wikipedia page)

1.
Somerhalder was born in Covington, Louisiana, the son of Edna, a massage therapist, and Robert Somerhalder, a building contractor. He has a brother, Bob, a former professional cyclist, and a sister, Robin, a broadcast journalist. His father is of French and English descent and his mother, who grew up on a pig farm in Mississippi, is of Irish and Choctaw ancestry. The surname "Somerhalder" originates from his adoptive great-grandfather. Somerhalder's biological great-grandfather was a wealthy English landowner whose surname was Hull and he paid an immigrant worker to marry his pregnant mistress and give their baby a name, which was Somerhalder.

2. His first major acting role was in The Rules of Attraction, Roger Avary's adaptation of the Bret Easton Ellis novel of the same name.

3. With his mother's encouragement, Somerhalder began his career as a fashion model at the age of 10. He modeled in New York, Paris, Milan, and London. Paula Patton, who stars as "Ms. Rain" in the movie Precious, is a guest on Late Night tonight. Patton made her debut in Hitch alongside Will Smith and later was in Idlewild with Big Boi and Andre 3000 (she gets major points in my book for being in the Outkast period piece movie.) Wanna know another fact about her? She is the daughter-in-law of actor and Growing Pains star Alan Thicke. Bet you didnt' think that. Check out the trailer for Precious:

92305462.jpgWe've got Matthew Bomer on the show tonight! He's the star of USA's new show, White Collar. Matthew's character on the show, Neal Caffrey, is a con-man who is so good at what he does, the authorities sign him up to help them catch other criminals. The show just premiered, so it's not too late to get hooked. In the meantime, who is this dashing young man, Matthew Bomer? Here are 5 things you might not have known (unless you are ahead of us and have already reached stalker status):

  • He played a recurring role on Chuck.

  • He got his start on television playing Ian Kipling on All My Children.

  • Matthew was originally director Brett Ratner's first choice to play Clark Kent / Superman in Ratner's remake of Superman (which eventually turned into Superman Returns).

  • He went to high school with Pushing Daisies star Lee Pace, and he went to the same college (Carnegie-Mellon) as his buddy Zachary Quinto.

  • His dad was a Dallas Cowboy.

Need I say more? Tune in tonight to gaze into his piercing blue eyes.

Tonight's Guest: Scott Wolf

84350885.jpgActor Scott Wolf is on the show tonight, talking about his role in the new V! You probably remember Scott the most from Party of Five, but we here at Late Night are super psyched about V. It was originally a miniseries in 1983, about aliens known as "The Visitors" - who show up all nice and pretty and peaceful but are quickly revealed to have a dark, ulterior motive. (In the 1983 version, they ate guinea pigs whole, which is a pretty standard red flag that you can't trust an alien.) This new imagining of V will be a full series, but broken up into "pods" (or, alien-like groupings of a small number of episodes) over the course of the year. It premieres on ABC starting tomorrow night!

I don't know but the market is ripe with plenty of new techy stuff. Here's Josh checking out some new Apple gear that was recently released:

Tonight's Guest: Taylor Swift

taylorswift.jpgCountry pop singer-songwriter, guitarist and actress Taylor Swift is a guest on LNWJF tonight.

5 Things You Did Not Know About Taylor Swift (unless you read her Wikipedia page)

1.
In 2006, she released her debut single "Tim McGraw", which peaked at number six on the Billboard country charts. Later in October 2006, she released her self-titled debut album, which produced five hit singles on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts and was certified 3× Multi-Platinum by the RIAA. The New York Times described Swift as "one of pop's finest songwriters, country's foremost pragmatist and more in touch with her inner life than most adults".

2. According to Nielsen SoundScan, Swift was the biggest selling artist of 2008 in the United States with combined sales of more than four million albums. Swift's Fearless and her self-titled album finished 2008 at number three and number six respectively, with sales of 2.1 and 1.5 million.[6] She was the first artist in the history of Nielsen SoundScan to have two different albums in the Top 10 on the year end album chart.

3. Swift was born in the borough of Wyomissing, Pennsylvania. She is the daughter of Scott Swift, a stock broker, and his wife Andrea, a homemaker. She has a younger brother, Austin. When she was in fourth grade, Swift won a national poetry contest with a three page poem entitled "Monster In My Closet".

4. At ten, Swift began writing songs and singing at karaoke contests, festivals, and fairs around her hometown. During one summer, Swift devoted herself to writing a 350 page (unpublished) novel. She was a member of Kirk Cremer's SNL-inspired kid's sketch comedy group, TheatreKids Live!, where she was a natural comedic talent. After seeing her karaoke performance at one of the cast parties, it was Cremer's mother who first suggested that Swift seemed more of a natural to pursue a career in country music, rather than theatrical performing.

5. Swift first learned to play guitar from a computer repairman who showed her how to play three chords. After learning those three chords, she wrote her first song, "Lucky You". She began writing songs regularly and used it as outlet to help her with her pain from not fitting in at school. Other kids would react badly to her so she wrote songs about them.

81611224.jpgActor Josh Charles will be on the show this evening, talking about his television program, The Good Wife. Josh plays Will Gardner, the boss of main character Alicia Florrick (played by former Late Night guest Julianna Margulies).

Prior to this role, you might remember Josh from his outbreak role in Dead Poet's Society or perhaps his part in one of my favorite movies (I'm not joking), Don't Tell Mom The Babysitter's Dead. It's hard for me to look at Josh and not imagine him with his Clown Dog hat on. Fun fact! Did you know that the original title for Don't Tell Mom was The Real World? You didn't? Well now you do, and you're slightly smarter now. But enough about the past - Josh is here TONIGHT and we love him! Don't miss it.

sykes.jpgEmmy Award winning comedian, actress and new host of "The Wanda Sykes Show" is a guest on LNWJF tonight.

5 Things You Did Not Know About Wanda Sykes (unless you read her Wikipedia page)

1.
Sykes was born in Portsmouth, Virginia and raised in the Washington, D.C. area. Her father served as a US Army colonel employed at the Pentagon, and her mother worked as a banker. She attended Arundel High School in Gambrills, Maryland, and went on to graduate from Hampton University where she earned a bachelor's degree in marketing. After college, her first job was as a procurement officer with the National Security Agency (NSA), where she worked for five years.

2. Not completely satisfied with her role with the NSA, Sykes began her stand-up career at a Coors Light Super Talent Showcase in Washington, DC, where she performed for the first time in front of a live audience. She continued to hone her talents at local venues while at the NSA until 1992, when she moved to New York City. Her first big break came when opening for Chris Rock at Caroline's Comedy Club.

3. In 1997, she joined the writing team on The Chris Rock Show and also made many appearances on the show. The writing team was nominated for four Emmys, and in 1999 won for Outstanding Writing for a Variety, Music, or Comedy Special. Since that time, she has appeared in such films as Pootie Tang and on TV shows such as Curb Your Enthusiasm.

4. In March 2009 it was announced that Sykes would be the host of a new late-night talk show on Saturdays on Fox. The Wanda Sykes Show is scheduled to premiere November 7, 2009. In April 2009, she was named in Out magazine's Annual Power 50 List, landing at number 35.

5. In May 2009, Sykes was the featured entertainer for the annual White House Correspondents' Association dinner, becoming both the first African American woman and the first openly LGBT person to get the role.

90400004.jpgCarrie Fisher is in the building, people, and she's going to talk to Jimmy about her memoir and one woman Broadway show, Wishful Drinking. Not only that, but she'll also be performing a short piece from the show for us! In the memoir / play, she talks about her life in Hollywood, her struggles with substance abuse and bipolar disorder, her relationships, and yes, Princess Leia. Sounds heavy - but we know that if anyone can make such dark material funny, it will be Carrie Fisher. I'm a huge fan of her dry wit, and I've been getting my daily dose of it on her Twitter feed. Her most recent tweet: "I'm about to film my segment on Jimmy Fallon- my dressing room is like a whore house for boyscouts complete w/ cupcakes." Tonight's Guest: Sam Rockwell

samrockwell.jpgSam Rockwell is an actor featured in several independent films. And he's a guest on Late Night tonight.

5 Things You Did Not Know About Sam Rockwell (unless you read his Wikipedia page)

1. He was raised by his father, Pete Rockwell, in San Francisco while his mother, Penny Hess, stayed behind in New York. He had what The New York Times described in 1998 as a "footloose upbringing" and, at age 10, made his brief stage debut playing Humphrey Bogart in an East Village improv comedy sketch starring his mother..

2. He attended School of the Arts High School (San Francisco) with Margaret Cho and dropped out before graduation. He later received his high school diploma after his parents enrolled him in an Outward Bound-style alternative high school called Urban Pioneers because, as Rockwell explained, "I just wanted to get stoned, flirt with girls, go to parties.".

3. The turning point in Rockwell's career was Tom DiCillo's 1996 film Box of Moon Light, in which he played an eccentric man-child who dresses like Davy Crockett and lives in an isolated mobile home. The ensuing acclaim put him front and center with casting agents and new-found fans alike, with Rockwell himself acknowledging that "That film was definitely a turning point....I was sort of put on some independent film map after 10 years in New York."

4. Rockwell won the biggest leading role of his career as "The Gong Show" host Chuck Barris in George Clooney's 2002 directorial debut, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind. Rockwell's performance was well received, and the film received generally positive reviews.

5. Rockwell played Victor Mancini in the film Choke, based on the novel by Chuck Palahniuk. Critic Roger Ebert said of his performance that he "seems to have become the latter-day version of Christopher Walken -- not all the time, but when you need him, he's your go-to guy for weirdness." In 2009 he featured in a science fiction film Moon, directed by Duncan Jones.

5 Things You Did Not Know About Hulk Hogan (unless you read his Wikipedia page)

1.
The son of Ruth, a homemaker and dance teacher, and Peter Bollea, a construction foreman, Hogan was raised in Tampa, Florida. As a boy, he was a pitcher in Little League Baseball. He began watching professional wrestling at 16 years old. While in high school, he revered Dusty Rhodes, and he regularly attended cards at the Tampa Sportatorium. It was at one of those wrestling cards where he first turned his attention towards "Superstar" Billy Graham and looked to him for inspiration.

2. In the late 70's, Hogan appeared on a talk show, where he sat beside Lou Ferrigno, star of the television series The Incredible Hulk. The host commented how Terry, who stood 6 ft 7 in (201 cm) and weighed 295 pounds with 24 inch biceps, actually dwarfed "the Hulk." As a result, Bollea began performing as Terry "The Hulk" Boulder and sometimes wrestled as Sterling Golden.

3. Vince McMahon, who wanted to use an Irish name, gave Terry Bollea (Hulk Hogan's real name) the last name Hogan.

4. After filming his scene for Rocky III, against McMahon's wishes, Hogan made his debut in the American Wrestling Association (AWA), owned by Verne Gagne.

5. Hogan was named the most requested celebrity of the 1980s for the Make-a-Wish Foundation children's charity. He was featured on the covers of Sports Illustrated, TV Guide, and People magazines, while also appearing on The Tonight Show and having his own CBS Saturday morning cartoon titled Hulk Hogan's Rock 'n' Wrestling. Hogan went on to headline eight of the first nine WrestleMania events, and he also co-hosted Saturday Night Live on March 30, 1985 during this lucrative run.

Tonight musical parody genius "Weird" Al Yankovic will be performing on Late Night. "Weird" Al has been making music for 30 years. 30 YEARS!! "Weird" Al started out playing coffee houses and sent a tape into the comedy radio show "Dr. Demento". The tape impressed Dr. Demento and he played it on the air. Soon after that, while in school studying architecture, "Weird" Al recorded a parody of The Knack's "My Sharona" entitled "My Bologna". This caught attention of The Knack who liked the song which led to a recording contract, and eventually the "Weird" Al you know today. Here are more facts about "Weird" Al Yankovic. I'm not yankin' your chain!

weirdal.jpg1. Weird Al is known for his elaborate concerts. He dresses up and performs characters from his songs.

92227955.jpgEdward Norton is on the show tonight! Do I really need to tell you how awesome this guy is? He beat up gamma-ray monster Tim Roth in The Incredible Hulk. Heck, he beat himself up in Fight Club. Add that to his great performances in American History X, 25th Hour, The Italian Job, and countless other films, you've got yourself a force of nature on your hands.

Speaking of nature (see what I brilliantly did there?), Ed will be telling us all about the Maasai Marathon. What's that, you say? Well, Ed and 3 Maasai warriors will lead a team of 30 runners to complete the New York Marathon next weekend to raise money for Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust. The Trust aims to support the preservation of biodiversity in the Maasai tribal lands of East Africa. Hello! Like I needed another reason to love this man!!! I am currently doing a performance (vocal + dance) of The Lion King's "Circle of Life" in celebration of Mr. Norton's efforts to protect wildlife.

p.s. Do you realize that the Hulk will be meeting the Hulk tonight on our set? Think about it.

Wells was a journeyman starter for the first eight seasons of his career. He debuted for the Toronto Blue Jays in 1987 as a reliever and did not secure a job as a full-time starter until he was 30 years old, despite pitching well most of the time and helping the Blue Jays win a World Series.

2. He emerged as a top-flight pitcher in 1995, when he was 32. After starting the year at 10-3 for the last-place Detroit Tigers and making his first All-Star Game appearance, he was traded to the Cincinnati Reds.

3. In 1997, he signed as a free agent with the New York Yankees, his favorite team because of a lifelong interest in baseball legend Babe Ruth. He asked for uniform number 3, and was of course denied, as the Babe's number had been long retired. He ended up taking 33 for the Yankees. On June 28, 1997, Wells took the mound wearing an authentic 1934 Babe Ruth hat, which Wells bought for $35,000. Manager Joe Torre made Wells take it off after the first inning because it didn't conform to uniform standards.

4. On May 17, 1998, Wells became the 15th pitcher in major league history to pitch a perfect game when he blanked the Minnesota Twins, 4-0. Wells claims that he threw the perfect game while being hung over.

The lovely Taraji P. Henson will be on the show tonight. You might remember her from Hustle and Flow and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (ahem, for which she was nominated for an Academy Award). She'll talk about her role in the recent Tyler Perry film, I Can Do Bad All By Myself, which is about April (played by Henson), sister of the famous Madea (you know, the one who went to jail?). April is a heavy-drinking nightclub singer who must care for some delinquent kids:

Tajari can do awesome all by herself.

Tonight's Guest: Elijah Wood

ewood.jpgElijah Wood is an actor best known as Frodo from The Lord Of The Rings movies and several other roles. And he's a guest on Late Night tonight.

5 Things You Did Not Know About Elijah Wood (unless you read his Wikipedia page)

1. Elijah Wood modeled and did local commercials before moving with his family to Los Angeles in 1988. It was there that Wood got his first break: a small role in a video by Paula Abdul - "Forever Your Girl," directed by David Fincher.

2. He made his film debut with a minor part in Back to the Future Part II. Soon after, he landed a succession of subsequent larger roles and became a critically acclaimed child actor by age 13.

3. The Lord of the Rings was filmed in New Zealand and, before the cast left the country, Jackson gave Wood two gifts: one of the One Ring props used on the set and Sting, Frodo's sword. He was also given a pair of prosthetic "hobbit feet" he wore during filming.

4. In 2008, he set a new world record when he became the first person ever to cross the Victoria Falls on ropes during an appearance on Jack Osbourne's show Adrenaline Junkie.

5. In 2005 Wood started his own record label called Simian Records. On September 19, 2006 Wood announced that Simian had signed The Apples in Stereo as their first band.

On tonight's show, Landon Pigg will serenade you with their song "Falling In Love At A Coffee Shop." If that song sounds familiar it's probably because you've heard it here. And if Landon looks familiar it's probably because he can be seen with Jimmy in the new movie Whip It. This guy is multi-talented! Check it out tonight - only on your telly!

Tonight's Guest: Chris Paul

91012318(2).jpgNew Orleans Hornets team captain Chris Paul is on the show tonight! You might know him from his hoop-shootin' on the ole hardwood (can you tell I know everything about basketball?), but did you know these other fun facts about him?

- Chris is a ten-pin bowler. Like, he's really good at bowling. Don't get fooled when he challenges you to a friendly set of frames. Because he will destroy you.

- Last season, Mr. Paul finished as the league leader in assists and steals. Does that make him kind of like the Robin Hood of the court? He steals from the "rich" (the other team) and gives to the "poor" (his team). That metaphor doesn't work at all, does it? (I told you I know a lot about basketball!)

- Chris wrote a children's book called Long Shot: Never Too Small To Dream Big, inspired by his own experiences growing up when people told him he was too small to play basketball.

- He played for the U.S. Olympic basketball team in Beijing. (The team, if you recall, was known as the "Redeem Team" - winning the gold for the first time since 2000.)

All in all, I think you're really going to like this guy. Be sure to watch tonight!

2. Meyers is the older brother of Josh Meyers who was a cast member of MADtv and That '70s Show.

3. Before SNL, Meyers got his improv comedy start as a member of the Northwestern University improv sketch group Mee-Ow, created by Paul Warshauer and Josh Lazar. He continued his career at ImprovOlympic with the group Preponderate as well as overseas as a cast member of Boom Chicago, an English language improv troupe based in Amsterdam, where his brother was also a cast member.

4. In July of 2008, Meyers directed the web series The Line on Crackle.

5. Meyers and SNL castmate Bill Hader penned a Spider-Man one-shot entitled "The Short Halloween". It was illustrated by Kevin Maguire and came out May 29, 2009 to positive reviews.

91932778.jpgThis evening the lovely and super cool Gina Gershon will be on the show. Gina is a woman of many talents. Aside from being an actress in such films as Cocktail, Showgirls, Face/Off, P.S. I Love You, and many more, she also has shown her satirical talents (with her impression of Sarah Palin), and she plays a very unusual instrument! The mouth harp. Other famous mouth harp enthusiasts include: Bon Jovi (it was used in the intro to "Blaze of Glory"), John Lennon (he played it in the song "The Fool on the Hill"), Atticus Finch, and of course Snoopy!!! Gina even played a mouth harp cameo on a Scissor Sisters song. Let's hope she breaks it out tonight. I'm thinking it would sound really great with the sousaphone, don't you?

Tonight's Guest: Eddie Izzard

It's Friday, and what better way to celebrate than to see the legendary comedian Eddie Izzard appear on the show? Eddie's got a new documentary coming out, called Believe: The Eddie Izzard Story, about his life, career and his recent journey to rebuild his act.

Also, Eddie performed live at Wembley Stadium (yes, that Wembley Stadium), which is out on DVD in November. If you prefer to see him in the flesh, he'll be on tour in the U.S. this January. More info about that here.

Tonight's Guest: Ivanka Trump

The stunning businesswoman, socialite, heiress, fashion model and author of The Trump Card, Ivanka Trump returns to Late Night tonight. Do you all remember what she did last time she was on the show? I surely do. Her and Jimmy had a sweet game of beer pong. What will she do tonight?

That's a good game to watch.

Tonight's Guest: Gerard Butler

I Love You, and Rocknrolla and this weekend he will be hosting SNL with musical guest Shakira (and her unlying hips). Tune in tonight to see him chattin' it up with Jimmy and check out this trailer for his upcoming movie Law Abiding Citizen. It looks intense.

Geez. INTENSE.

Tonight's Guest: Greg Proops

proops.jpgGreg Proops is a stand-up comedian and actor best known for his work in the UK on the improv comedy show Whose Line Is It Anyway? He is also a guest on Late Night tonight.

5 Things You Did Not Know About Greg Proops (unless you read his Wikipedia page)

1.
Proops was raised in San Carlos, outside of San Fransisco. Later, he studied improvisation and acting at San Francisco State University. He was captain of SFSU's winning College Bowl team.

2. After graduation, he joined an improv group with Mike McShane, which proved to be his ticket to stardom. Both Proops and McShane impressed producers Dan Patterson and Mark Leveson, who put them on their show, Whose Line Is It Anyway?.

3. One of his trademarks is his tendency to issue witty comments when something in or about the scene strikes him as ridiculous, usually breaking the fourth wall in the process and bringing the scene to a temporary halt. He is also known (and infamous) for his ability in improv games such as "Weird Newscasters", via a play on words, to drop innuendos that can also bring a scene to a halt and cause others to occasionally break character and laugh.

4. In addition to his stand-up and improv acts, Proops has done voice work in various films and TV shows, including the miniseries Stripperella with Pamela Anderson, and in Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas alongside Whose Line Is It Anyway? co-star Catherine O'Hara.

5. For several years, Greg upheld the idea that he owned an ocelot. However, on March 25, 2009 in a written interview, he stated that he doesn't actually own one whatsoever. He was quoted saying: "Oh, I say I have an ocelot and it's a joke, but I've had so many news programs in this country say, "So what's it like, having an ocelot?" And I'll say, "It's marvelous just to see them run free. When feeding time comes and they're mulling, it just warms your heart."

The legendary Kathie Lee Gifford is on the show tonight! Kathie Lee spends her days just a few floors below Late Night, hosting the fourth (and golden) hour of The Today Show with Hoda Kotb. Kathie Lee and Hoda are always doing crazy stuff (I particularly loved when Kathie Lee tested out the Wine Rack Bra - she is our We Get Stuff kindred spirit!), but one of my favorite moments was when Chef Sam Zien told them both to be quiet during a cooking segment. Who dares to tell Kathie Lee and Hoda to pipe down??? Watch by clicking below:

Tonight's Guest: Martin Short

THE Martin Short is on the show tonight! Do you know what this means? It means that my life goal of having all three of the Three Amigos on our show is now complete. First, we had Steve Martin, then earlier this week we had Chevy Chase, and now we've got Martin Short. But if you want to get technical, Martin has actually been on the show before - in picture form. Remember when Steve Martin came and confronted Jimmy about the dinner party? Jimmy got really fresh with Martin:

Next goal: get the Three Amigos all on the show simultaneously to sing "My Little Buttercup." A girl can dream, right?

Tonight's Guest: Eve

eve.jpgEve, the recording artist and actress whose first three albums have reached 7 million copies sold world wide and ranks number 48 on VH1's "50 Greatest Women Of The Video Era" is a guest on LNWJF tonight.

5 Things You Did Not Know About Eve (unless you read her Wikipedia page)

1.
Her husband is Adam, from whose rib God created her to be his companion.

2. She succumbed to a serpent's temptation via the suggestion that to eat the forbidden fruit from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, would improve on the way God had made her, and that she would not die, and she, believed the lie of the Serpent rather than the earlier instruction from God, shared the fruit with Adam.

3. As a result, the first humans were expelled from the Garden of Eden and cursed.

4. She went on to take an interest in music. Eve's first musical interest was singing. She sang in many choirs and even made an all-female singing group (Dope Girl Posse or D.G.P.) with a manager. This group covered songs from En Vogue and Color Me Badd. After the group's manager saw the rap group ABC, they suggested that the group should rap, and Eve stuck with it. She then went on to form a rapping group. After the group split, Eve began working on a solo career under the name "Eve of Destruction." She spent the better part of her days perfecting her craft,

5. Eve is featured (along with Erykah Badu) on the song "You Got Me" by The Roots, from their 1999 album Things Fall Apart. She also provided background vocals on the song "Ain't Sayin' Nothin' New" from the same album. In the album's liner notes, she is referred to as Eve of Destruction.

I know you're super excited - but calm down - you can get Eliza all up in your computer screen RIGHT NOW. She has this cool Virtual Echo app that allows Echo (her character in the show) to randomly walk onto your screen and interact directly with you. For instance: she'll shoot you!

He's coming here to talk about his brand new comedy movie Stark Raving Black, and you'd be a total EFFING MORON to not go see it when it opens on October 8. I've been involuntarily busting out into my (amazingly accurate) Lewis Black impression all day (getting really pissed off, cursing, shaking my head and waving my hands around), and let me tell you - my office mates absolutely love it! I highly recommend doing the same to those around you. In the meantime, check out this trailer for Stark Raving Black (language NSFW you nitwit):

At the height of the Bird Flu scare (another scary one) Peter Sarsgaard was the host of Saturday Night Live and it was perfect timing for a sketch for him to promote his left over Peter Sarsgaard's SARS Guards from a few years prior.

Tonight's Guest: David Wells

wellsd.jpgDavid Wells is a former Major League Baseball pitcher and one of 18 players in Major League Baseball to have ever pitched a perfect game. He is also a guest on LNWJF tonight.

5 Things You Did Not Know About David Wells (unless you read her Wikipedia page)

1.

5. Wells will be a broadcaster on TBS Sunday baseball broadcasts during 2009.

This is NOT David Wells' website. Tune in tonight to see him!

Tonight's Guest: Kristen Wiig

Posted by Jon Friedman October 5, 2009 12:30 PM
Categories

wiig.jpgKristen Wiig the hilarious Saturday Night Live cast member and co-star of the recently release Whip It is a guest on LNWJF tonight.

5 Things You Did Not Know About Kristen Wiig (unless you read her Wikipedia page)

1.
Kristen attended the University of Arizona with a major in art. She was hired as a graphic artist by a plastic surgery clinic to show clientele what they would look like after surgery, but left for Los Angeles before ever starting the job to pursue an acting career. In Los Angeles she joined The Groundlings, working "odd jobs".

2. In 2003 she starred on the Spike TV spoof show The Joe Schmo Show, a satire of reality television in which she played "Dr. Pat", the Quack Marriage Counselor.

3. Wiig debuted on Saturday Night Live shortly into its 31st season, on November 12, 2005. In Wiig's first sketch, she played the wife of Jason Sudeikis; the two accidentally pick up an escaped murderer (Jason Lee), unwittingly giving the murderer carte blanche to break into their home and violate their blind niece. Wiig survived an SNL budget cut, becoming a full member of the repertory cast at the beginning of the show's 32nd season in 2006.

4. Wiig has become famous for her characters Penelope, the one-upper, Gilly, a highly mischievous schoolgirl, The Target Lady, a clerk at the chain store and a kitsch collector, Judy Grimes, a nervous travel agent frequently appearing on Weekend Update, as well as real-life people like Suze Orman, and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi.

5. She recently co-wrote a script with her Groundlings co-worker Annie Mumolo for Universal Pictures. Judd Apatow will produce the film. Upcoming work also includes Greg Mattola's Paul, co-starring Seth Rogan, Jason Bateman, Jane Lynch, and Bill Hader; "MacGruber" opposite SNL castmate Will Forte; and her first purely dramatic role opposite Ryan Gosling, Kirsten Dunst and Frank Langella in Andrew Jarecki's "All Good Things". Most recently, Wiig has signed on to co-star in SNL castmate Casey Wilson's upcoming "lady buddy-comedy" film Ass Backwards, which is set to start filming in November 2009.

tim schafer2.jpgTim Schafer is a video game designer who worked with LucasArts for over a decade and is directing the much anticipated Brütal Legend. He is a guest on LNWJF tonight.

5 Things You Did Not Know About Tim Schafer (unless you read his Wikipedia page)

1.
While studying computer science at UC Berkeley, Tim Schafer worked at George Lucas' game production company LucasArts. During his application process for the job, he had a somewhat disastrous phone interview in which he mentioned he was a fan of Ballblaster - at which point the interviewer, David Fox, informed him that this was the pirated version of Ballblazer. He was still permitted to send in his resume and a cover letter, so to make up for the phone interview, he sent in a comic of himself applying for and getting the job at Lucasfilm Games, drawn as a text adventure.

2. After play testing the Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade action game and assisting with the NES version of Maniac Mansion, Schafer was assigned as a writer and programmer to the production of the pirate-themed adventure game The Secret of Monkey Island.

3. Monkey Island is noted for its humorous story, though was originally conceived as having a more serious tone; Schafer and Grossman wrote much more humorous placeholder dialog, which persuaded Gilbert to turn it into a comedy. The Secret of Monkey Island became one of the most acclaimed games of its kind.

4. Schafer worked on an unannounced PlayStation 2 action-adventure game at LucasArts, but it never entered production. He left the company in January 2000 to found Double Fine Productions, where he created the platform game Psychonauts. The game was first released on Xbox in North America on April 19, 2005. It won much critical acclaim, including a Game of the Year award from Eurogamer.

5. Schafer is currently working on a new game called Brütal Legend. About Brütal Legend Schafer said: "I've always seen this overlap between medieval warfare and heavy metal. You see heavy metal singers and they'll have like a brace around their arm and they'll be singing about Orcs. So let's just make a world where that all happens. Let's not flirt around with this let's just do it."

swisher.jpgLife is good for Yankee outfielder Nick Swisher. First of all, he's now playing for the Yankees (duh). He's also dating Gossip Girl star Joanna Garcia - I can tell you this because she told us that very fact, when she was on the show earlier this week! He's all about helping other people (something he'll talk about on the show tonight), and he's on the Twitters (@NickSwisher). Baseball is in his blood. His dad was also a major leaguer who played for the Chicago Cubs, and he's very versatile. He's been known to play first base and even once pitched. Basically, this guy is having a blast and he'll be bringing the Swisher fun to Late Night tonight! Don't miss it.
